Me: I'm going to a funeral tomorrow.
Father: Oh, for who?
Me: Stanley Robertson, the major storytelling guy of Scotland?
Father: The one you interviewed?
Me: No, hadn't got to him yet.
Father: That's too bad.
Me: I guess.
Father: Network!
Me: What?
Father: Everyone in Scottish storytelling will be there. Take a notebook, write down their names. Network. Introduce yourself. Make the people you know introduce you to everyone else.
Me: What? Network? At a funeral? Is that even allow.
Father: Network!!

I agree with Lewis.
Parents! Glad we whisked you away before you felt constrained to do what your Dad suggested!! Anyway, the 'big guns' from the storytelling world weren't there, cos they were probably all in Edinburgh getting ready for the festival. What a mercenary thought! Reminds me of the bit in the Mentalist when Patrick Jane boasts he can chat up the widow at a funeral (mind you, he'd already guessed she was the murderer by then!!)
Your dad sounds cool.
